Botanical name
Glycine max (L.) Merr.
Family
Fabaceae
Origin
China
Seed Rate
70-75 kg/ha
Season
Kharif
Time of sowing
The latter half of June, typically during the rainy season, is considered the ideal time for sowing
Land Preparation
To effectively pulverize the soil, it is recommended to conduct 1-2 ploughings. Prior to sowing, it is advisable to incorporate 5 tonnes of FYM into the soil.
Seed Treatment
Treat seeds with either 3g/kg of Thiram or 2g/kg of Bavistin 24 hours before sowing to prevent disease attack. Additionally, apply 5 ml of Imidachloprid at a rate of 7g/kg of seeds to protect against pest attacks for a period of 15-20 days.
Spacing
45 X 10 cm spacing is sufficient to get good yield.
Water Management
Soybean is rainfed crop. However, it's crucial to prevent water stress during the flowering and pod formation stages of the crop to ensure optimal growth and yield.
Inter cultivation
one time at 20-25 (DAS)
Weed management
Manual weeding at 20 and 40 DAS is effective. applying pendimethalin pre-emergence at a rate of 0.75 a.i/ha along with one manual weeding at 40 DAS, or using Butachlor at a rate of 1kg a.i/ha followed by one manual weeding, resulted in higher seed yield.
Fertilizer dose
Before sowing, 20 kg nitrogen, 80 kg phosphorus, 40 kg potash and sulphur each are need to be applied.
Pest management
Before sowing apply Thimet 10G at 10kg/ha to soil to prevent stemfly infestation. Apply either Dithane M-45 or Difolitan at a rate of 2.5 kg per hectare mixed with 1000 liters of water to protect against rust.
Harvesting
During maturity, the leaves transition to a yellow hue and fall off, while the soybean pods rapidly desiccate (90-120 DAS).
Yield
1.6 – 2.5 t/ha.
Pests
Major pests include stem fly, leaf folder and semilooper.
Diseases
Major disease of soybean are seedling rot, anthracnose, leaf blight, leaf spot, rust, frog eye and soybean mosaic virus.
