Land Preparation
Plough the land 2-3 times to attain a fine tilth of the soil, while also incorporating 5 tonnes of farmyard manure (FYM) per hectare.
Seed Treatment
Treat seeds with thiram 0.15%and carbendazim 0.1%. After one week, treat with ammonium or sodium molybdate at a rate of 0.3 g per kg of seeds along with rhizobium culture, with 1.5 kg per ha required.
Spacing
60 X 10 cm (spreading types) and 45 x 10 cm (bunch types)
Water Management
For optimal germination, irrigate before or after sowing. Water every 10-15 days and critical growth stages are flowering, pegging, and pod formation.

Weed management
Manual weeding is preferred. Apply fluchloralin at the rate of 0.75 kg/ha before sowing. Alternatively, 1-2 DAS incorporate pendimethalin 0.75 kg/ha or alachlor 1.0 kg/ha. Otherwise, 20 DAS add quizalofop ethyl 5 EC at the rate of 0.05 kg/ha
Fertilizer dose
Before sowing, apply 20 kg of nitrogen, 40 kg each of phosphorus and potash, and 30 kg per hectare of sulphur.
Pest management
Spray Phosphamidon 0.03 % or Dimethoate 0.03 % every 10 days to control sucking pests. Use Dichlorvos 0.05 % or Monocrotophos 0.04 % for leaf miners.
Harvesting
Key signs of maturity include yellowing of foliage, leaf spotting, and shedding of older leaves.
Yield
for spreading type, yield ranges from 1.5 to 2.0 t/ha and for bunch type yield ranges from 1.0 to 1.5 t/ha.
